MARQUEE MASCOT MATCHUP - OCTOBER 4, 2003

Oregon State Beavers
(4-0)
AT California Golden Bears
(2-2)

Recap:

Beavers 35 - Golden Bears 21

Preparedness, execution, and flat out willingness to whoop some ass win games. The Beavers came ready, jumping all over the Bears like a fresh windfallen tree after a storm. Setting up their signature damming structure, the Beavers ran all over the Bears at will, surging to a commanding 28-7 first half lead. The Bears, for all their growling and flexing, appeared helpless in the face of the well orchestrated Beaver invasion. Plain and simple, the Beavers wanted it more, and the Bears just didn't seem hungry. Slapping their tails on the field and baring their giant buckteeth, the Beavers took the roll of the aggressor, racking up over 150 yards of penalties by the end of the match. The Bears, seemingly having taken up early winter hibernation, could only muster a rally after the Beavers retired to their den for a 3rd quarter nap.

When asked about the keys to the Beaver's recent success, star tailback Steven Jackson responded by ravenously gnawing off the reporter's left leg, before dragging the bloody stump to a pile of previously collected Bear limbs. This trademark aggressiveness shows how these Beavers mean business. Rumors of a new motivational pre-game tape used by Cal coach Jeff Tedford, featuring famous Golden Bear "Winnie the Pooh" remain unconfirmed.
